McCain Pulls Ahead

McCain has pulled ahead in the polls. I, being a Republican, like that. However, it means something else as well. It means that the conservative movement in America is far from being dead. The media would have you believe that conservatism is wrong, dead, and gone. Though people will debate me on my opinions on the first one, the last two are undeniably incorrect. There are still many conservative-leaning or firm conservatives in the country, something the media would try to discourage you from believing. Generally, this year has seemed to be a tirade of the media trying to convince everyone how rare and out of date conservatives have become, as opposed to the more progressive and thus intrinsically superior liberals. And i haven't liked one bit of it.

But that's just what I think.

Well now that it's Sept. 18, what do you think? I agree with you that the conservative movement is not dead, but I would also argue that the era of big-government, interventionist, neoconservativism is coming to an end. The GOP seems to be taking a slow but sure movement towards the "Old Right" where you still have your social and fiscal right-wingers, but there's still respect for civil liberties, other nation's soverignty (as well as our own), and a non-interventionist foreign policy. Had these past 8 years turned out any different, neoconservativism would still be alive, but unfortunately Sarah Palin is just a new face on a soon-to-be old movement.
